Western Union discontinues telegrams

After 145 years in the business, Western Union discontinued sending telegrams on January 27.

"Left unmentioned in their announcement was the fact that no one had requested a telegram be sent since some time in the mid 1970s, and the last person fluent in morse code died in 1988--a full 4 years after the second-to-last, meaning that, had anyone needed to send a telegram, no one could have read the messages he might have sent, anyway."
